Sustainable Energy Management in Main Campus, Melaka

Description

UTeM has invested an amount of money in energy management to support the campus’s massive area. The sustainable energy management system setup’s performance has contributed to decreasing the CO2 emission while improving the Building Energy Index (BEI) for the main campus.

The latest update of the BEI is 145kWh/m2with CO2emission reduction for 3,791.97tone CO2. The total energy saving (waste avoided) for the three-year energy management program is 13,849,590 kWh. Meanwhile, the commitment operation cost of the government has been saved by about MYR 5,055,100 (USD 1,263,775). The Energy Management Practices recognized by AEMAS EMGS under 1 and 2 stars.

Energy Management System for Hospital Segamat

Description

Hospital Segamat had established a baseline of energy use, energy review, monitoring and measurement of energy consumption, energy management program, and action plan with an aim of reducing the consumption of energy and carbon footprint in line with the pledged made by the Malaysian Government.

Subsequent to the establishment of the program in 2016 until current status, a total savings of 3,453,030.00 kWh or RM 2,380,557.71was attained by having a comparison with2016 baseline which is 6,855,687.00 kWh per annum.  The attainment was due to several energy conservation projects implemented along the period focusing on improving HVAC and lighting systems based on the audit conducted. The Energy Management Practices recognized by AEMAS EMGS under 1 and 2 stars.

Hospital Yan, Kedah

Energy Management System, Hospital Yan Kedah

Description

Hospital Yan is a government hospital under the Ministry of Health located in Yan Kechil, Kedah. The land area of the hospital is 25 acres and began its operation in the year 1992.

The total gross floor area for Energy Management System (EMS) is 13,341.71m². In 2015, Hospital Yan has established Energy Management Program (EMP), and to drive the program, EMS  was implemented. EMS was built based on the Concession  Agreement  (CA)  between MoH and Concession Company (CC). The Energy Management Practices recognized by AEMAS EMGS under 1 and 2 stars.

Energy Management Program Hospital Tanjung Karang

Description

Hospital Tanjung Karang is a Non-Lead Northern Cluster Hospital under the Ministry of Health located in the Kuala Selangor District. The hospital was built on 10 acres of land and started its operation in the year 1966. In collaboration with Radicare (M) Sdn Bhd, Hospital Tanjung Karang started implementing the Energy Management Program in 2016.

The main objective of the program is to have a structured team for the monitoring and implementation of energy management program in Hospital Tanjung Karang and to reduce energy consumption by 10% in 2 years’ time without affecting the operation of the hospital and also compromising the comfort and safety of the staff, patients and general public.

In the fourth year of implementation, the hospital is able to achieve a 12.24%  reduction in energy consumption. The total energy saved during the four years of implementation is 785,549.38kWh equivalent to 545.17 tonnes of CO2 reduction and RM376,532.37 in cost-saving. The report submitted was well written and presented. The Energy Management Practices recognized by AEMAS EMGS 3 stars.

Mycron Steel CRC Sdn Bhd (MSCRC)

Energy Cost Saving At Continuous Pickling Line (CPL), Shah Alam Selangor.

Description

Mycron is the first Malaysian  Cold  Rolled  Coil  (“CRC”)  manufacturer. It now boasts a diversified client base, supplying to drum manufacturers, galvanizing and roofing industries, steel cable trucking industry,  pipe and furniture producers,  automotive manufacturers, electrical and home appliance industries.

Continuous Pickling Line (CPL) is feed material in the form of Hot Rolled Coils(HRC) are pickled at this phase to produce a strip surface suitable for cold rolling. The project shows positive impacts, which reduce the number of re-processing raw material  (HRC) and reduce the number of defects and increase production tonnage.

The pattern of energy consumption is reducing, and the efficiency of the energy performance is increased. The Energy Management Practices follow but are recognized by AEMAS EMGS and implement PDCA cycle under 5S, ISO, Kaizen, energy losses identification, and safety.

Description

Kerry Ingredients (M) Sdn Bhd is a food manufacturing plant established in Johor Bahru, Malaysia in Feb1998 as SDF was part of the accusation made then. Kerry Global’s business structure mainly focuses on Taste & Nutrition, Consumer Foods & Agribusiness.

In Malaysia, Kerry Ingredients (M) Sdn Bhd focus solely on the business in Taste & Nutrition. The key process technology is Liquid Processing with Spray Dried process and Dry Blending. The Energy Management practices integration with Environment.

Putrajaya 1 Regional Sewage Treatment Plant (Energy & Maximum Demand Management at STP)

Description

Indah Water Konsortium Sdn.  Bhd. (IWK), a company owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated, is Malaysia’s national sewerage company which has been entrusted with the task of developing and maintaining a modern and efficient sewerage system for all Malaysians.

This submission shows the details on how IWK’s policies and implementation of EnMS resulted in energy efficiencies and savings at Putrajaya 1 RSTP. Putrajaya 1 RSTP is located at  Presint  14, Putrajaya.  It is a mechanized plant with the capacity to treat sewage meeting the DOE’s effluent quality discharge Standard Para II Standard A. It has a capacity to treat 22,500 m3/d which is equivalent to a population of 100,000. 

The plant treatment system utilizes Extended   Aeration (EA) technology. The   annual   electricity consumption at Putrajaya 1 RSTP in 2016 was 1,004,880kWh or 3.62Million MJ and EnPI is 0.35 kWh/m3 as a baseline (for 2016). The report submitted was well written and presented. The Energy Management System (EnMS) has been integrated into Integrated Management System (IMS).

Energy Conservation Initiatives to Reduce Electricity Consumption, Puchong Selangor

Description

Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd (PLS)is a pharmaceutical manufacturer for Small Volume Injectable (SVI) and a subsidiary of Pharmaniaga Berhad. The plant was established in April 2004 and received certification from NPRA to manufacture its first commercial batch in Jan 2011. in 2019, PLS was appointed by the Government of Malaysia to undertake the fill and finish for Covid-19 vaccine with more than 20.4 million doses have been supplied. In PLS, the Energy Management Practices was integrated into Environment Management System and certified under ISO 14001.

Description

Energy Saving Measures Project and Efficient Energy Management practices at  Persada PLUS were implemented and practiced since the year 2017. This is after the Energy Audit exercise was successfully conducted at Persada  PLUS  complex on  7  March  2017 under  Audit Conditional Grant from Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA).

Persada PLUS has retrofitted with LED lighting, installed with Variable Frequency Drive for its chiller system, and powered by a 442.08 kWp solar PV system. All these measures provide a significant impact on Persada PLUS’ annual electricity cost. As a result, 55.15%  of energy-saving for the year 2020compared to the year 2016 (baseline).

Description

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is a regulatory body whose key role is the regulation of the communications and multimedia industry based on the powers provided for in the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and the Strategic Trade Act 2010. 22-story office tower.

A well-designed green office building adopting comprehensive lists of proven sustainable elements and features and more importantly, able to maintain them over the ensuing years of occupancy – achieving GBI Gold renewal certification. Notable green features include a rainwater and greywater recycling system and RE (PV) generation off-setting 2% of total energy consumption, utilizing chilled water from District Cooling Plant in Cyberjaya to satisfy the cooling load for the building.

Court of Chaya is a sacred and contemplatives pace where the primary function is the inurnment of cremated remains. Located at Nilai Memorial Park, recognized as Malaysia’s premier internment facility. The building makes meditative and contemplative spaces an dis deliberately restrained and neutral in its aesthetic. A very commendable effort at incorporating sustainable design elements for a rather unusual development.

Description

Celcom Corporate Headquarters is a 32-storey tower tucked into Petaling Jaya’s existing urban fabric that overlaps upcoming developments consisting mostly of government and privately-run commerce and leisure industries, with 50% designated as office buildings, 25% allocated to hospitality and the remainder serviced apartments. Good passive EE design elements are incorporated together with modern EE active systems.

This building incorporates an office zone and a service apartment zone. However, the submitted narrative failed to provide the separate energy use breakdown or strategy.The narrative on provision of a District Cooling Plant is contradicted with the listed individual designed COP of chillers. No energy use profile is furnished except for a final combined BEI value.

Concord Green Energy Sdn. Bhd.

A Real-Life Renewable Energy Business Model by Developing a Biogas Plant Capable to Export 1.5 MW Power to National Grid at Concord FGV Adela Biogas Plant, Kota Tinggi, Johor

Description

Concord Green Energy Sdn. Bhd. (CGE) is one of the leaders in Malaysia’s biogas industry that develops Feed-in Tariff (FiT) biogas power plants under the Build, Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) business model which utilizes palm oil mill effluent (POME) as the feedstock.

To date, CGE has developed and is operating 4 POME biogas plants in the country with a total net export capacity of 5.6 MW, including the Winner of NEA 2021, Adela Biogas Plant. CGE within the Concord Group intends to continue to expand under this profitable business model; in support of Malaysia’s aspiration for 31% renewable energy contribution to the national energy mix by 2025.

Description

Tonibung   is   a Social   Enterprise organisation   promoting   appropriate   technologies   forcommunity sustainable development projects. Tiku Micro Hydropower Project is maintained and supervised by Tiku village’s operator and managed under Tonibung’s management. Two local operators or local champion assigned to manage basic system maintenance and collecting electricity payment from the villagers.

These operators are supported by Tonibung’s technical support for high level maintenance and trouble shooting. Electrification programmed for unreachable national electric supply; 24-7 clean energy and reliable supply. The community benefit element of this program is the touch point to the rural community. Involvement of the community during the construction.

Ramatex Textiles Industrial Sdn.  Bhd. (Ramatex) is a leading company in the textiles industry in  Malaysia and a  World Class  Manufacturer of textiles. In line with the  National  Green  Technology  Policy, the project will also embrace green technology and environmentally friendly elements through the construction of a RE plant (Biomass)and recyclable wastewater treatment plant. The project improves the energy needs of the fabric factory.

Waste Tires to Renewable Energy, Pelabuhan Klang

Description

EPS specializes and focuses on the reduction of waste tires by recycling them in an eco-friendly and effective way through a pyrolysis system. EPS had initiated the project – “Waste Tyres to Renewable Energy” that converts scrap tires to renewable energy such as bio-oil and bio-gas. This project involves three major operating procedures, namely tire-shredding, pyrolysis, and heat generation.

Convert critical waste to beneficial product for commercial + byproduct and internal energy supply. The project improves the energy needs of the plant by reducing the energy required from the Grid with the by-product to generate the heating process. Closed-loop waste disposal concept for energy and product recovery.

PSB Hybrid Solar PV System for Telecommunication Station at Pulau Seri Buat, Pahang

Description

The PSB  Hybrid  Solar  PV  system is the most reliable,  feasible, and environment-friendly technology or solution for powering the telecommunication repeater  24  hours a year at  Pulau  Seri  Buat. Pulau  Seri  Buat (PSB) is located  20  km from fisherman jetty Penyabong,  Endau  Johorand 40  km from  Pulau  Tioman serves as a  telecommunication repeater communication between TM Kuala Rompin station and three stations such as Kampung Tekek, Salang, and Genting at Pulau Tioman.

Well maintained, significant impact, and best problem-solving method. The system was in operation since 1998. This is the evidence of a successfully operating system and a higher element of sustainability. Reliability of the system – higher lifespan and excellent financial model.

Description

Off-grid Solar Powered Soccer  Field  Floodlight  Project is a  youth-initiated project developed by student members from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Curtin Malaysia which is involved from the initial design phase to the final implementation phase. 

This solar power field consists of a 9.6kW PV array solar power generation, 48V 1200Ah battery bank, and 3.4kW load consumption with an auto-turning light on the mechanism every night from 18:30 to 22:00.

This construction and development have a great impact on the community in Curtin University  Malaysia and  Miri especially in the sports and recreational purpose at the soccer field during night time. Student initiatives, 100% eliminating fossil fuel, awareness sustainability for the future generation.

IOI Bio-Energy Sdn Bhd

Success Story of 66 t/h, 10MW Power Plant Fueled by Palm Biomass, Sandakan Sabah

Description

A Cogeneration plant where IOI Bio-Energy (IOIBE) supplies steam and electrical power to the parent company, IOI Edible Oils Sdn Bhd for refining and fractionation of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Crude Palm Kernel Oil (CPKO).

IOIBE also supplies steam for product heating in the parent company’s bulking installation.  In supplying steam and power to IOI  Edible  Oils  Sdn Bhd, IOIBE combusts wastes from palm oil trees such as empty fruit bunch  (EFB),  palm kernel  shell and is also currently experimenting with other biomass wastes such as wood dust, wood chips etc. as fuel source making thisa carbon neutral facility.

Old paper and files from Suruhanjaya Tenaga, Sandakan office  has  been  combusted  in  this  boiler  on  several occasions. It Increase system efficiency to provide sufficient power and thermal for internal processes. The report is good and well prepared. It’s highlighted the key benefit of the project technically, economically and socially as well as for the environmental point of view. The use of EFB as major fuel for Cogen plant, an improved process of Cogen plant. Huge impact to the socio-economic and environment, income from ash as fertilizer

Description

BAC Biomass Kg Gajah Sdn Bhd is a JV between BAC Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (BACRE), pioneer in developing integrated Palm Waste Management Solutions and Reviva Sdn Bhd (REVIVA) a member of Cypark Group, pioneer developer for integrated renewable energy with more than 31 Megawatt (MW) of RE projects in Malaysia.

This project utilises palm oil mill by-products for better waste management and additional income. It showcases the integration of biomass and biogas powerplant using Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) and Palm Oill Mill Effluent (POME) to produce bioenergy, agricultural feed & media, bedding, etc. The project paves potential collaborations with RE developers and mill in the green business ecosystem.

Description

PMRMB operates  Petron  Lumut  PME  Plant  (LPP),  which produce Palm Methyl Ester (PME) or also known as Biodiesel. Biodiesel is delivered to strategically located terminals for blending with PETRON Diesel Max prior to distribute to significant numbers of  Petron service stations in Malaysia.

Throughout this robust distribution network, Petron is able to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of PETRON Diesel Max quality to various customers. LPP is the 1st Malaysian O&G industry initiative to run the process plant.  A complete biodiesel supply chain demonstrated by the petroleum company and MSPO certified on the supply chain – biodiesel production and blending

Direct Drive AHU Fan Retrofit at an Assembly Plant via EPC for Building Besi Apac Sdn Bhd

Description

Cofreth (M) Sdn Bhd is the appointed ESCO to implement this award-winning EPC project at Besi Apac. The project involves retrofitting the AHUs’ conventional IE1 motor, belt-driven centrifugal fan with high efficiency IE3 motor, direct drive axial fan.

Over the first year of implementation, the realised energy savings is a staggering 46 % reduction in monthly energy consumption compared to the baseline energy performance.

In terms of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions, the energy savings has induced 175 tons of CO2 emission reduction over the first 12-months of implementation. This is equivalent to carbon sequestration achieved by 4,383 trees (size > 10 cm diameter).

Medivest Sdn Bhd appointed under new Concession Agreement to implement Hospital Support Service including Energy Management Program started on 1st April 2015. It was built under the concept of nucleus hospital and has 314 beds for patients in wards.

This hospital is one of specialist hospital in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. HTAN occupied with 12 wards and 5 Specialist Clinics. There are 7 Energy Account Centers (EACs) that has been established during Energy Management Meeting on 31st March 2016 to improve energy monitoring and energy saving program implementation.

Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad

Description

As a firm supporter of the nation’s sustainability agenda and a key proponent for Green Technology financing, MDV implements various green initiatives in its business operations since 2018.

This includes implementing sustainable practices such as eliminating single-use utensils for meetings, smarter use of electricity in the office, cautionary use for printing hardcopy materials, e-cards greetings and implementing better filing system across all departments.

On top of that, MDV implemented Green Procurement in their organization such as monitoring special light fittings at the board room and meeting rooms of level 23, and level 5 (reception area) during the renovations that were carried out between 2017-2018.

As a key green financier, the employees of MDV are tasked to be substantially equipped and updated with available green technologies to assist its assessment for its green financing. To this end, MDV provided a cumulative total of ten trainings from 2019 to 2020 for its key business and consulting services employees.

This allows for MDV to share its key learning experience and lesson learnt in workshops, large capacity events and seminars; and knowledge sharing sessons with other parties in the ecosystem such as related agencies and financiers.  MDV also received recognition from third parties for its green technology financing and organised a green-related CSR campaign with Yayasan Hijau in 2019.
