The various production lines at Mycron Steel use compressed air services to operate. To enhance system energy efficiency, it was decided to replace 6 units of 7kW compressors with 3 units of 132kW compressors. Two of the new compressors are fixed speed type while one is the variable speed type.

This measure was initiated in March 2022 and completed September 2022, involving an investment of about RM1.141 million. This upgrade resulted in a saving of RM1.262 million over a 12 month period giving a payback of about 0.9 years.

Mycron Steel has been accredited to MS 50001 (Energy Management Systems – Requirements with guidance for use). This will ensure a systematic approach to energy management while drawing the commitment of its top management for this purpose.

During the NEA 2024 evaluation, Mycron Steel obtained the highest score among the candidates in the Energy Management in the Large Industries category, leading it to be declared the winner in this category.
