Tonibung, a social enterprise in Sabah, Malaysia, brought light and progress to a rural village through their Kobulu micro hydro project.
By partnering with Shell’s Access to Energy program, they upgraded the existing 10kWh hydro system to a 20kWh one, meeting the increasing energy needs of the community.
Completed in 2019, this project not only provided electricity but also created jobs and boosted the local economy. Now, the community manages the system and charges a fair rate for electricity usage, setting a sustainable model for progress in rural areas.
