PETRA Launches 2025 National Energy Awards

The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has opened entries for the fifth edition of the National Energy Awards (NEA) from Nov 18, 2024, to Feb 19, 2025. The awards aim to recognise excellence and innovation in sustainable energy development among industry players and government entities.

Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Akmal Nasrullah bin Mohd Nasir, officiated the engagement session attended by around 100 participants.

Since 2018, the NEA has acknowledged 203 entities for their contributions to energy efficiency and renewable energy, with 169 winners representing Malaysia at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA), securing 150 accolades.

PETRA reaffirmed its commitment to reducing carbon footprints in electricity supply, targeting a 70% renewable energy mix by 2050. Key initiatives highlighted for 2024 include:

  • Expanding the Large Scale Solar (LSS) and Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP) quotas to 2,800MW.
  • Enhancing self-use solar installations through the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme.
  • Facilitating access to green electricity via the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).
  • Diversifying renewable energy sources under the Low Carbon Energy Generation Programme (LCEP).
  • Strengthening grid resilience with a 400MW pilot energy storage system by TNB and competitive bidding for an additional 1,600MW.

The NEA continues to serve as a platform for sharing best practices and inspiring industry players to reduce their carbon footprints, aligning with Malaysia’s commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement.
