KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) — A total of 50 organisations recognised at the National Energy Awards (NEA) 2026 have collectively delivered RM48.82 million in annual energy cost savings, while achieving energy savings and renewable energy output of 270.54 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually.
In a statement today, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) said the projects also contributed to an estimated annual reduction of 9.93 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to removing approximately 2.2 million cars from Malaysian roads.
“The achievements contribute to Malaysia ‘ s aspiration to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as early as 2050, ” the statement said.
It said organisations were increasingly adopting clean energy solutions, including solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), biogas, waste-to-energy and green hydrogen to strengthen energy resilience and accelerate the country ‘ s energy transition.
According to PETRA, the achievements of the NEA 2026 winners support the implementation of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the PETRA Strategic Plan 2026-2030, which prioritise renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, energy security and the development of a competitive, low-carbon economy.
“The achievements also underscore that Malaysia ‘ s energy transition is a shared national mission requiring the collective commitment of the Government, industry, businesses and communities to build a resilient, sustainable and inclusive energy future, ” it said.
PETRA said selected NEA 2026 winners would represent Malaysia at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA), showcasing the country ‘ s sustainable energy achievements and best practices at the regional level.
“This reinforces NEA’ s role as the national platform for identifying and recognising exemplary organisations with the potential to excel at both national and ASEAN levels, ” it said.
NEA 2026 was the first edition in which the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia served as its Secretariat, following the transition from the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC).
PETRA said it was confident that SEDA Malaysia would further strengthen NEA as a platform for recognising excellence, broadening industry participation and supporting Malaysia ‘ s renewable energy and energy efficiency agenda.
The ministry congratulated all NEA 2026 winners for demonstrating the impact of innovation and practical solutions aligned with national priorities, and encouraged more organisations to invest in sustainable energy practices and participate in future NEA editions in support of the country ‘ s energy transition agenda. — BERNAMA
