Building on five decades of Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities, Malakoff continues to advance practical, scalable climate solutions through initiatives such as our Biomass Co-Firing project at the 2,100 MW Tanjung Bin Power Plant.
Launched in May 2024, the project introduced a 2% mix of sustainably sourced biomass—including wood and Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) pellets—into Malaysia’s largest coal-fired plant. This initiative converts agricultural waste into renewable fuel, avoids an estimated 755,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, and strengthens local energy value chains.
Recognised with a Merit Award at the National Energy Awards 2025, the project demonstrates how Malaysia’s power sector can support the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). Malakoff is committed to expanding biomass capacity in the future, taking concrete steps toward a cleaner, low-carbon energy mix.
Now more than ever, decisive action is needed to cut emissions and accelerate the nation’s transition to low-carbon energy.
