NATIONAL ENERGY AWARDS (NEA) 2019 RECEIVED OVERWHELMING RESPONSE FROM ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND RENEWABLE ENERGY INDUSTRY PLAYERS

145 industry players participated in National Energy Awards 2019

KUALA LUMPUR. 1 August 2019 – National Energy Awards (NEA) encourages industry players in the energy efficiency & renewable energy sectors to play an important role in transforming the country’s sustainable energy landscape. It is conceptualised to recognise the growing commitment and confidence of businesses and institutions in Malaysia in adopting sustainable practices in their operations.  NEA 2019 had received an overwhelming response of 145 applications with 77 organizations qualified to participate in the 2 categories namely energy efficiency and renewable energy. This year’s Category 1 received 17 submissions for the Energy Efficient Buildings and 27 submissions for the Energy Management. As for Category 2, the Renewable Energy category, 33 companies and organisations submitted their entries.

The winners in the energy efficiency category were chosen for implementing energy efficiency measures in buildings and operations through innovative designs. For the renewable energy category, the winners were selected for applying renewable energy technologies, such as thermal, solar or biofuels, into their operations.

Winners of the NEA will represent Malaysia in the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2019 set to be held in Thailand this September. Malaysia has been one of the main and strong contenders at AEA and is expected to continue to excel this year. 19 NEA winners competed at ASEAN Energy Awards in Singapore last year and 10 finally won.

YB Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change said, “It is my aspiration to see the NEA evolve to be the leading platform for sustainable energy industry players to convene, network and share best practises. It is on this note that I would like to see more industry associations and chambers to be part of NEA. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Malaysia Green Building Council (MGBC) and Malaysia Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (MASHRAE), for agreeing to be our partners.”

The National Energy Awards is an annual recognition by the government of Malaysia to acknowledge outstanding achievements and best practices in driving the country’s sustainable energy sector. Organised by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), it was inaugurated in 2018 as part of the Ministry’s initiatives to drive and promote energy efficiency and renewable energy in Malaysia.

MESTECC remains committed to honouring Malaysia’s pledge to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and reckons that having a concerted plan for the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency is pivotal to achieve the country’s commitment. [/vc_column_text][rd_line][vc_column_text]For more information please log on to the official NEA website (www.nationalenergyaward.com.my)
