NEA 2025 To Spur Industry Players To Reduce Carbon Footprint – PETRA

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 Jan (Bernama) — The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) is convinced that the National Energy Awards (NEA) 2025 will act as a catalyst for industry players to reduce their carbon footprint in their operations and supply chains.

The ministry said in a statement that the awards, held for the fifth time, will provide an opportunity and platform to share best practices in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

“The implementation of various green electricity supply-based initiatives throughout 2025 proves PETRA’s commitment in providing options to electricity users to reduce their electricity use carbon footprint to fulfil their environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.

“It is hoped that this move will contribute to the reduction of release of carbon by the electricity supply sector, in line with the country’s commitment under the Paris Accords, ” it said.

Industry players and qualified entities are encouraged to join the awards, organised by PETRA and the Malaysia Green Technology & Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) as its secretariat, and participation is open from Nov 19 last year till Feb 19.

PETRA introduced the NEA in 2018, and 1,147 industry players and qualified entities have participated, with 169 award winners chosen to represent the country in the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA).

In conjunction with Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN, the ministry will carry out the AEA 2025 presentation ceremony in Kuala Lumpur this year, and an engagement session has been held by Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Nasrullah Mohd Nasir to promote and brief stakeholders about NEA 2025.

“The organising of NEA is part of the partnership between the public and private sectors to speed up energy transition in Malaysia. The joint effort allows drastic operation cost savings, boosts global competitiveness, and ensures environmental sustainability for future generations.

“PETRA as the pioneer ministry for the electricity supply sector’s energy transition, remains commited to reducing the national electricity supply carbon footprint by raising renewable energy to 70 per cent by 2050, ” the ministry said. — BERNAMA
