Scope widened for National Energy Awards this year

THE Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Ministry through Greentech Malaysia are calling for submissions for the National Energy Awards 2020 (NEA 2020).

NEA 2020 is an award that acknowledges outstanding achievements and best practices in driving the country’s sustainable energy sector.

This award will be divided into two categories of energy management and energy-efficient building as well as renewable energy initiatives in the country.

“This is our third year organising NEA and to-date, more than 30 companies have been awarded and represented Malaysia at the Asean Energy Awards (AEA),” said Malaysian Green Technology Corporation chief executive officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor.

“Eleven Malaysian companies won at AEA 2018, and 16 won at AEA last year.

“Malaysia is being recognised as a top regional player in driving the Energy Efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energy (RE) industry.

“We are introducing a special award for NEA 2020 as we will be widening the scope to include Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) projects, local private and public universities and financial institutions that provide access to financing for energy-related projects in the country.

“It will be exciting times for the EE and RE industry and we encourage all relevant stakeholders to take this opportunity to participate in the National Energy Awards as it will be an opportunity for them to be recognised not only in Malaysia but also in the South-East Asia region,” he added.

The NEA encourages industry players in the energy-efficiency and renewable energy sectors to play an important role in transforming the country’s sustainable energy landscape.

It is conceptualised to recognise the growing commitment and confidence of businesses and institutions in Malaysia in adopting sustainable practices in their operations.

As the country strives towards its target to reduce carbon emission by 45% in 2030, the ministry is placing these building blocks to promote the adoption of EE and RE as well as other energy sources, contributing towards attaining objectives of national energy policies.

Through this promotion and awareness, the ministry hopes that the public and business owners will understand and appreciate the importance of EE and RE.

Submission for NEA 2020 is now open and the secretariat is currently engaging industry players through briefings and workshops to facilitate their participation.
